Hot Custard returning to defend title
London-based Hot Custard will be returning to Guernsey this weekend to defend their title at Guernsey Touch’s Channel Islands Club Championship.
The team won the tournament, which is open to local teams as well as those from off-island, in 2011 and 2014. They will be looking to make it a hat-trick at the Memorial Field on Saturday and are bringing two teams across to increase their chances of victory.
Jersey-based team The Islanders will be the third off-island team and are bringing a number of up and coming youth players to take part in what is the eighth Channel Islands Club Championship.
Five Guernsey teams complete the line-up for the one-day event, which is open to mixed sides; Source Sorcerers, James Gavey Architecture (JGA), Electric Shocks, Healthspan Harlequins and Barbarians team will all look to beat each other as well as the visitors. Several of the local teams will be fielding players from Guernsey Touch’s new Youth League to give the youngsters the opportunity to play in faster-paced games against strong and experienced opposition.
‘It’s fantastic to welcome Hot Custard back to Guernsey as they have some very strong players and added to the competitiveness of last year’s tournament. Having them and a Jersey team will give the Guernsey teams some challenging games and we’re looking forward to seeing some quality touch being played,’ said Guernsey Touch chair Ollie Ward.
Games start at 10am and spectators are welcome.
